“Chantilly Clad”

The Arts Council initiated the A Lot Series in the Spring of 2009 with the launch of the Urban Lab Program—a public art program that brings temporary site-responsive work to vacant lots in targeted areas of the City. Chantilly Clad has transformed a vacant lot at the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Lime Avenue. By using reclaimed shipping crates, buoys, cranes and nautical rope to create a stage, seating area and a suspended lace canopy, Chantilly Clad has provided a much-needed venue for outdoor performances, art and community events. The design and fabrication process for this project included a series of six public presentations and lace-making workshops where members of the public, artistic and architectural communities participated in the fabrication of the Chantilly Clad canopy. Over 200 people participated in these events.
